I spoke with my personal MLA (as the last one wasn't mine, I live in a different area) today and am going to meet with them tomorrow in their office. The gal there is very interested in our story in regards to social services, and wants to get as much information from me as possible.
Spoke with a really fantastic girl at the Ministry of Justice to try and find out more information on the "predator" and getting some head way there. She has also passed on our information to the Ministry of Social Services. Now this is over the guy that I had talked to before. This is the ACTUAL Minister's office. Waiting to hear back from her tomorrow.
It's still frustrating on so many levels, but I guess the bonus to all of this, is that I have people that are trying to help us. I have been in contact with Maurice Vellacott's office, and below is the response from them. For those of you that don't know who he is, he is the MP that has taken the private members Bill C-422 Equal Parenting to parliament. Please go and sign the petition (the link is at the top right hand side of this blog, in the list of important links) and get as much Canadian support we can for this extremely important bill.
Here is the response from Mr. Vellacott's office:
"I apologize for the delay in responding. It will still take some time for the bill to be debated in Parliament because Mr. Vellacott’s name is near the bottom of the list of MPs randomly selected to have their bills debated. Probably at least a year unfortunately, but there’s little one can do about that with so many MPs in Parliament. In the meantime, we encourage all supporters to contact their own MP to find out if they would support the bill and if they support equal shared parenting (being in Saskatoon, I believe that the two other MPs representing that city also support it, as do probably/hopefully all Conservative MPs), and to urge them to support the bill. If they don’t support it, offer to educate them about the issue. And encourage friends and family members to do the same with their MPs. I hope this helps. Thank you very much for writing. "
